This holiday season brought us the opportunity to experiment with a few of the many delightful subscription boxes out there. A little for Bean and a little for mama. As much as I want to be, I don’t think we are quite ready for the awesomeness that is Kiwi Crate (affiliate link) yet.
Admittedly, Kiwi Crate describes themselves as for ages 3-8, but it was worth a shot right? The box was incredible! I was beyond impressed. It included a pair of scissors since it was our first box and we might need those for future projects, a small magazine with a story, cookie recipe, and a few extra projects all related to the theme of the box (Arctic), and supplies and directions for two bigger projects. The boxes are delivered monthly for $19.95/month and can include projects for arts & crafts, science activities, and imaginative play. From what I understood ahead of time, the box may vary based on your child’s age, but I’m not entirely sure if that part was true since we got the same project as a 5 year old friend.
Despite the older age range, this seemed to be a great project starter for a napless toddler afternoon while the little guy took nap. We decided to attempt the Snowball Toss figuring it was less mess and we were trying to keep things cleaner in preparation for the upcoming birthday party.
Sticking velcro dots to a ping pong ball? We got this. No pattern to it and he now only wants to take the dots off and put them down the heating vents, but he did well placing them on. When it cam to stitching the paw mitt together, I was absolutely blown away by his concentration.
And, obviously, it made me melt to see my little man sewing. Thankfully this part was time consuming, in my mind making it worth it. It was an extended period of quiet and concentration and sitting still. Something we rarely see.
Putting the felt stickers on to make the paw print and claws were where he showed his true artistic side. LOL
He had very little interest in the game itself once we had completed it, so at least we got some quiet time out of it and Bug got to take a nap in peace and quiet. Oh and he looked adorable in the little polar bear ears. I was glad to see we weren’t the only unsuccessful ones with Kiwi Crate this month. Bre and Addy tested out the other project and had the type of results I was figuring would come of it. We’ll same that one for a rainy/snowy March day when he is officially in the right age group.
For now, we’ve put our subscription on hold for a few months until Bean is a better age to work on the projects. If you are interested in trying it out, let them know I refered you buy ordering here and save $10 on your first box!*
*”tractor pants” brought to you by Uncle Mark. The boy can’t play without them.
And this happy guy after a nice long nap and a nice cold milk:
I’ve seen this box before and love the idea. I don’t think my 2 year old is quite there just yet though
So fun! I love these kinds of boxes!!
I’ve heard of this before but didn’t really know what it was until now. Looks adorable!
I’ve been eyeing these for the boys for months.
We’re going to give it one more month…because I forgot to cancel before the billing cycle. lol. At least I’d get another post out of it. We haven’t even tried the panda thing.
