Since this baby is still a complete mystery and I am having killer heartburn, I thought it might be fun to post some of the Old Wive’s Tales that are out there so we can see which ones end up being accurate for this pregnancy. Don’t worry, belly photo for this week is coming soon!
gender
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl.
Baby’s heartbeat has been been above 140 the entire time. As was Bean’s.
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.
There has been a disturbing amount of talk about my belly this pregnancy. Most have claimed it is a boy based on the “all up front” nature of the gain. I disagree with the “all up front” but who would know my body better than me? Obviously EVERYONE and their mother. I am, however, undeniably higher than I was with Bean. I wore my regular jeans until past 30 weeks this time!
The Mayan Tale
The Mayan Tale adds the mothers age at conception and the year of conception. If the result is a even number then mom is having a girl. If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way! According to this, we are having a girl. This would have worked out correctly with Bean.
Salty vs. Sweet
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl. I’ve been craving candy and sugar like they are going out of style. Prediction: Girl.
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl. I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one.
According to this: Boy. My legs thinned out with my first pregnancy though, so this would have been inaccurate last time as well.
If a toddler boy expresses interest in a pregnant woman, she is having a girl. If he doesn’t show interest, she’s having a boy.
It took 9 months to get the Bean to kiss my belly. The main interest he has shown is discovering the belly can be used as a step stool. Draw your own conclusions from that.
other
If a pregnant woman experiences heartburn throughout the 9 months of pregnancy, she’ll have a baby born with a full head of hair.
The heartburn has been completely out of control this pregnancy. It’s TERRIBLE. Ben was pretty much a baldy. He still looks like he is bald nearly 2 years later.
Not much longer until we learn the answers to these! Did any old wive’s tales turn out true for you? I figure they have about a 50% chance of being right 😉
[…] Big, huh? Did you see my other post today? […]
